Artist's Comments

I started painting this as a doodle months ago. It grew and grew...I ended up working on it off and on (more off than on lol!), and finally finished it tonight.

Old man willow waits for Tom Bombadil, keeping gaurd over Goldberrys water lilies.

Toucha da lilies, you loosa ya face, he says.

Inspired by book one of Lord of the Rings

A nice bit of verse about Old Man Willow from ~Yensil

"Old Man Willow is a nasty old shoot.
He's a gnarled and withered old coot.
He'll lull you to sleep
And strangle you deep,
Deep in his tangled old roots."

Just in case you think this looks like a nice peaceful place to sit and dangle your feet in the water...consider yourself forewarned ;)

Something about this Old Man Willow makes you do a double take. This peaceful image had me starring at it for the better part of five minutes just taking in the incredible amount of details. One can see the amount of effort and time put into this piece by *MBoulad. (Suggested by `lazybutt and Featured by $spinegrinder)

Holy shit, awesome! I wasn't too sure was going on when I first looked at it, I was kinda like... Woah.. a man... But I thought I saw a tree? But I looked at in again and saw I was more right then I thought I was XD This is too cool... I love anthro-ing inanimate things... Trees, too... I find old people really pretty for some random reason... And he looks so wise and cool :O I love them! And you did so much detail in the background... The swans and water and the little frog <3 Amazing!

woah, the detail in this is amazing! I was paying attention to the tree, then I scroll across, and see all the detail in the water and trees, further off. Brilliant, so beautiful, I especially love the black swans (?)! But the tree, wow, the detail is just wonderful, you must have so much patience! :) Gorgeous work! I also love how you payed attention to the background, too, and not just the tree. Like all the water lilies and pads, and the frog, and all the trees and water. Yes, stunning. :D

Thanks R&T...hey I joined your club, when do I get to learn the secret handshake? :-) It's cool that you have a fan club!

Thanks for the fav on this, btw...

Hi, thanks! This was one of those weird things that painted itself, I didn't have any clue what it was going to be at the beginning, so I'm not surprised that it's a bit hard to make out what it is :-)
:iconmboulad:
Thank you Tasha, I really appreciate that. This was a pretty enjoyable work, but I think because I was only working on it for short periods of time I lost the inspiration to finish it with more detail. I'm really happy with the things you listed :-) You have a good eye! There are other areas that needed more work, but I think I'm happy enough with this as it is :-)
:iconmboulad:
Thanks Darron...I have a feeling this tree wouldn't be much fun to meet unless you were old Tom himself :-) Remember what happened to Pippin and Merry in book 1 of LOTR? Ew...

Thanks for your comment!

 I understand, just a doodle, you said. But it's amazing how a doodle can end up with so much life, no ;) I mean, it shows, how you had fun doing it.
