Old Man Willow by MBoulad Old Man Willow by MBoulad
I started painting this as a doodle months ago. It grew and grew...I ended up working on it off and on (more off than on lol!), and finally finished it tonight.

Old man willow waits for Tom Bombadil, keeping gaurd over Goldberrys water lilies.

Toucha da lilies, you loosa ya face, he says.

Inspired by book one of Lord of the Rings

:-)

A nice bit of verse about Old Man Willow from ~Yensil

"Old Man Willow is a nasty old shoot.
He's a gnarled and withered old coot.
He'll lull you to sleep
And strangle you deep,
Deep in his tangled old roots."

Just in case you think this looks like a nice peaceful place to sit and dangle your feet in the water...consider yourself forewarned ;)

Something about this Old Man Willow makes you do a double take. This peaceful image had me starring at it for the better part of five minutes just taking in the incredible amount of details. One can see the amount of effort and time put into this piece by *MBoulad. ( Suggested by brennenxr and Featured by MidnightExigent )

This is a Masterpiece! I couldn't stop thinking about the Celtic mitology, Mother Nature, Wisdom Trees, Ancient Magic... Your painting are so detailed, I'm always finding new tiny particularities...
Great, great work!

When I first added it, I had no clue what it was, but since I recently started reading LoTR (I'm at Rivendel), I can appreciate it much much more. =)

(Does Rivendel have one 'L' or two?)

Fantastic. Magnificently depicted leaves and realistic looking water, and the superb addition of the white lilies in the fore and backround that really catch the eye. The Old Man Willow himself look very withered and old, but there is definently a soullfull look in his eyes. This is something that few artists I have seen have been able to do successfully, very good.

Wonderful version of the willow from LOTR. You put some great details into this one and captured the trees emotion beautifully. My favorite part though is the curious frog :D. Great job. Keep up the work!

Thanks for your comments and encouragement :D This was one of those paintings I just sat and played around with as long as I wanted, without putting any constraints on how quickly I worked. Those are always most enjoyable, I think :)

The masters took years on their most famous (and some of their not-so-famous) artworks. It took Michelangelo 4 years to paint the ceiling of the Sistine chapel and 6 years to paint the Last Judgment behind the alter. Leonardo Da Vinci spent 4 years on the Mona Lisa. If you truly love it and have the passion for it, it doesn't matter how long something takes to fall together! Keep the great work coming!

Thank you so much, I did enjoy working on the colours in the water, blending and adding highlights. I love the look of deep still water, where you can see the dark colours below and the reflections at the surface at the same time  It's very interesting to paint!
