Hmm...where to put this, landscape or animal? Anyway...
A still sunrise over the billabong, promise of a hot summer day. And hopefully a belly full of fish and frogs for a hungry heron.
White faced heron and giant blue waterlily (nymphaea gigantea)--though I must say when I've seen these waterlilies I'm not sure why they're called 'giant'. They're big enough I guess, but...well. Not giant
I'm behind on here again, and if you've commented on one of my works or we were in mid conversation and I suddenly disappeared, please accept my apologies, and my promise to get with it again in a couple of days. Things have been busy and all my spare time has gone into this painting. They always become an obsession at some point and everything non essential (ie that doesn't involve feeding the family or remembering to keep us all properly clothed) takes a back seat until the painting is done.
I have a pile of laundry to attend to Hope you're all well and recovering from a splendid weekend!

...I'm speechless.
I love the sublte light you painted and the colors you chose - Tranquality...there could not be a more suitable title for this artwork.
You can be proud of yourself, as usually!
You could put it in either or both categories, I think.
Tranquility is the perfect name for it and it is, tranquil, perfectly tranquil.
It's not just the scene or the calming lavender, but also the fact that you have everything so perfectly balanced, side to side, object placements, how things relate, side to side the heron's beak pointing toward the branch on the left, almost on the same level, but not quite, the placement and value of the lightness in the sky, the shape of the light area, the movement in the piece and the stillness.........it's all perfectly balanced so that nothing feels too heavy, out of place, no movement not counterbalanced with another. Teachers try to teach composition, balance, movement. They try to explain it, what works and why and try to teach it, but really, I don't think you can really teach it. The artist has an innate sense of balance and composition and puts it to work, or doesn't. If you have to learn it then you have to think too much when creating a painting and it looses something..........life.
