New Fairytale, Myth and Fantasy E-zine Calls for Submissions

I think this will be of interest to a lot of people here on DA! A new E-zine, Dante's Heart, due to be issued in December is calling for entries from writers and artists who specialise in fairytale, myth, fantasy and folklore. Have a look at their site at www.dantesheart.com/ and send them a submission of your (as yet) unpublished work :) This will be a great oppurtunity for some of the talented writers and artists here on DA to get their work out to the public...and I can't wait to read their first issue, it should be fantastic!

Great Online Stories to Enjoy

I'm sure many of you, like me, find it helpful to have something interesting to listen to while you paint. Music is great, and can be the perfect inspiration....but sometimes I get tired of listening to the same old cd's over and over. So I poked around a bit for some interesting podcasts and hit the jackpot :) I hope you all like these too!

Escape-Pod is a weekly podcast with some fantastic sci-fi short stories, and they have over 100 past podcasts to work your way through. There are some really interesting stories here to help you while away the hours while you work. They also have a newer sister podcast called Psuedopod that specialises in horror stories. I believe there is a fantasy podcast in the works, as well, but it's not up yet...I'll pass on the link when it's up and running.

You can find Escape Pod at escapepod.org/ and Pseudo Pod at pseudopod.org/  Look… like they have forums set up for listeners to discuss the weekly stories, like ha! I have time for stuff like that...but I bet some of you would enjoy it :)

If anyone has links to share for similar podcasts I'd be thrilled to have them :) I've almost exhausted the archives at both these links, so I need some new stuff to listen to!

Hello, possums, hope this finds you all well and the creative juices flowing.

Seeing as it's almost spring here, I'm glad to finally get to use the Spring Fairy CSS made by Lilyas. I did the graphic for it :)

*pats self on back*

Heh...it really was an interesting experience, I enjoyed working with Lily :)

I , as usual, should apologize for my lack of participation lately, and a huge 'Thank you!' to anyone who has faved my work or added my gallery to your watch list is in order! I've taken so long to answer many of these faves that I decided instead of saying 'Thank you!' 500 times--days or weeks after the fact--I'd rather visit each persons gallery and return some of those faves and watches instead :) So expect to  see me sneaking in and out of your gallery soon!

Things have been ok here...I had a fantastic visit with my daughter recently, but have been so down since she had to fly home to the US. We're hoping she can come back for Christmas though, and I'm trying to keep that in mind rather than dwelling on things I can't change (like the distance between Australia and the US...who's the smart aleck who put that freaking big ocean there, eh? I gotta bone to pick with him/her!). I wish I had the luxury of staying in bed for a couple of weeks at the moment, but then who really has that luxury, sheesh.

Deep breathing helps, ever notice that? When you're miserable, anxious and stressed, breath deeply and slowly. It really does help :)

It will get better...and Christmas isn't really all that far away, right?

Right. :(

Bah...enough depressing stuff!

Something interesting my 8 year old son told me recently...

"Mum, there will never be such a thing as time travel."

"How could you know that?" I asked.

"Because if there were, then we would have seen people from the future come back by now."

Kids are funny, aren't they? What a thing for an 8 year old to sit around thinking about. Clever reasoning. And he's right, I've never seen or heard of a person coming back from the future to give us the low down on what to expect. Either they're damn good at hiding or they just never showed up. Which means we shouldn't waste our time trying to build a time machine. Right???

I've rediscovered the Traveling Wilburys lately, bought their collected works this week. Everytime I hear Roy Orbison's clean clear voice it chokes me up :( Jeez, that man could sing. I'm glad he had the experience of taking part in the group before he passed away, they seemed to have a blast making music together.

I'm done rambling for now ;) Here are some recent find from here on DA, I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.

PS, I meant to ask if anyone else is missing the comments from some deviations? I just noticed yesterday that the comments have completely disappeared from a few of my deviations, it's really odd!

DD and Features

Aw, gee...I just spent an hour on this journal and lost it! Wah...but here goes, I'll try again...

I'm so excited to see that Old Man Willow was choosen as a DD today :D Many thanks to brennennn and MidnightExigent for this, I'm really thrilled

I've spent the last couple of weeks meaning to feature a few artists, and seeing as it's Saturday night and I need a break from my current work this seems like the perfect time ;) Hopefully lots of you folks will spread a bit of DA love around to these very deserving artists :D

**************************************************************************

First some artists new to DA whose work deserves a big welcome:

Spazwerks Just lookit that beautiful storybook village, the details blow me away! I'm anxious to see more work from this artist, I love his imagination and attention to detail.
Storybook village by Spazwerks Demon Slave by Spazwerks Dragonfire by Spazwerks

g-barr Beautiful illustrations...I hope he'll share more with us soon...edit to add--those of you who enjoy his work will find this interesting ;) www.bpib.com/illustra2/barr.ht… Pretty cool, eh?
Flesh Gordon by g-barr Alice in Wonderland by g-barr Vigil by the Violet Sea by g-barr

skillman An apt dev name, he's quite skillful at his craft...
Gandalf by skillman cat lama by skillman old man by skillman

And a few artists who are perhaps not so new to DA, but still deserving of some extra attention

Ravenari Her shamanic animal designs are just exquisite. Nice to see an artist give Australian animals the respect they're due. I really admire her work :D
Seadragon as Totem by Ravenari Thylacine - The Extinct Dance by Ravenari The Owl and the Frogs by Ravenari

vespertino An artist whose paintings always give me reason to stop and really look cloesly
Eco-Sistema by vespertino Hijo by vespertino Pasajes de la memoria by vespertino

mahirates One of my favourite artists here on DA.

There are so many fantastic artists here on DA...I hope you enjoy visiting some of these :)

And I've wanted to mention the March 14th (at least I think it was the 14th and now I can't find MY copy!) issue of New Scientist. The cover article discusses the theory that the universe is actually a fractal. Ok, it's just a theory, but if you're a fractal artist, or just someone who LOVES fractals, it's intriguing reading :) Who knows, maybe someone on here has already produced a work that closely models our universe...and we'd never even know it :)

Around here things are pretty dull on a Saturday night. I don't like watching tv, and for some reason I generally end up wrapping up my paintings on a Friday night...so what to do?

I made up a game a few months ago for nights like tonight. It goes like this...

1. I start with the work I like best in my deviation watch list...fav it...then go to that person's favourites list and pick out the first thing that a. I've never seen before and b. is from a deviant I've not heard of before that moment.

2. Follow the link, fav that deviation, then look through THAT persons favourites list and do the same thing again.

Over and over until I've either lost interest or it's time for bed :)

It's a good way to see new works from people you otherwise wouldn't see, and in catagories you might ordinarily overlook.

So...I thought it would be fun to share what I found this week.

Maybe someone else out there will have a boring Saturday night, and find this fun and want to share what they've found. I hope so :D

Saturday Night Favourites Hopscotch #1

This week I started with an intriguing pic from erdalkinaci He's always a good deviant to visit when you're feeling sick of our superficial world and the likes of Paris Hilton *gag* and Brittany Spears *choke*, and wondering where all the *real* people in the world went to...you'll find many of them in his gallery. Truly. Real. People.

:thumb50216050:

From his favs I picked this little sweetie from vintagegothII Aww...just...*melt*. What a sweet face, no wonder he's covered in icky lipstick :D

The Ladies Man by vintagegothII

From there I hopped over to StarAphelion For a lovely tattoo design. Not that I'm looking for one ;) but I really do appreciate the beautiful line work on some design. This one is lovely.

Over to imamon  I wish he'd visit MY garden, I'd throw him bits of raw hamburger

Jump to purplepawn Isn't that pretty? I love the way the colours are arranged on the page, really eye catching

Everyday Colour by purplepawn

On to noistar Nightmarish with dreamy colours...some photomanips leave me scratching my head...how'd he do that???

From kuksi Speaking of nightmarish...but then it suits the subject. Have to spend more time in this artists gallery, fascinating...

:thumb28569619:

Darn it, I've hit a dead end. Kuksi doesn't have any favourites. Solution, pick the last person who commented on his last posted work...here goes...

Oh, lucky me :) Carrie-Kube has an interesting gallery, will pick one from her favs...

Wen-M The colours and similarity to a fractal pulled me in, the details made me want to look closer

Eminent Radiance by Wen-M

SD-CocoRin Not sure why I picked this one, it's quiet and simple, it doesn't jump out at you and throttle you around the neck yelling "Look at ME!" Which is why I like it. Pretty colours...calm and beautiful, but detailed and rich.

And final jump for this Saturday night is werol with

final encounter by werol

That was fun
Saturday's done :D

Hope you all have a great weekend!

I'm really crunched for time (we're supposed to be homeschooling right now...this teacher is playing hookey temporarily!) But school can wait a few minutes as I couldn't wait to show off this beautiful journal layout made by Lilyas using one of the fairies from my Morning Glory painting :D  I think she's done a first rate job with this, I'm so impressed with the colours, borders and layout!

Lily, thank you so much for allowing me to play with this idea, it was so fun, and a really fantastic experience for me! I'm so happy to be a part of your generous spirit in sharing with all the folks here on DA

Below you'll find a few of my favourite works discovered this week :) I'll probably add to these a bit later today...oy! The time...I have to run!

Maths...english...spelling...science projects await! and the overwhelming joy of handwriting, oh, we DO love handwriting :P
